Evaluation Criteria

b. 2021

This year, under the severe influence of the pandemic, we were skeptical about organizing CEL Kids Hackathon 2021 as there were many moving puzzle pieces. On the other hand, we also had  a strong feeling that children in India currently need a platform to showcase their innovative skills which can boost their confidence that they can face any challenge, persevere, collaborate and use innovative skills to overcome the challenge for better.

We saw that 630 children from 42 different schools and nonprofits from 13 cities in India participated to showcase their coding talent and made amazing projects on UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to make the world a better place.

This year with your support we added new content about writing problem statements and collaborating which are essential skills in the current era and in sync to make projects for CEL Kids Hackathon. Moreover, this was the first time we ambitiously did webinars to help children with basics of code and computational concepts so that they confidently participate in CEL Kids Hackathon.

We are excited to share that this year the scores of the participants have gone up by 15% on the criteria where they had to find a contextual problem, design a social innovation, code using their computational thinking and collaborate with partners resolving their mutual issues. This is a great achievement for us!

We were super amazed to see projects where an application was developed which calculates your carbon emissions and another project created had a game to learn about water harvesting and many more! This is incredible!

We deeply sense the challenges and obstacles through which children, teachers, parents and various stakeholders participated. Children not having computers to code but still coding on phone which is painstaking, teachers teaching and supporting children online which requires much more effort. Moreover, teachers, parents and various stakeholders went through the registration process and other hassles making sure that children get to participate and experience the joy of coding and solving problems.

We want to thank all the volunteers and expert panel members who have spent so much time viewing all the work of children and engaging with children to objectively evaluate the work and create amazing learning opportunities for them. We also want to thank our donors, supporters and collaborators for making a concerted effort to make sure that children build 21st century skills to thrive in the innovative world.

We are happy to announce the top 6 winning projects of CEL Kids Hackathon 2021 and want to congratulate the winners, their teachers, parents and schools on this achievement. We have shared the link of the projects with an idea of learning from these projects and to grow in the coding journey.
